Company Overview

SYPAQ Systems is an Australian defence engineering and systems integration company incorporated in Victoria in 1992 by George Vicino, who had served 22 years in the Royal Australian Air Force; David Vicino, who joined in 2000, is managing director. Its head office at 60 Bertie Street, Port Melbourne, also houses its advanced manufacturing facility and Defence Autonomy Centre of Excellence, and it has offices in Canberra, Sydney, Perth and Singapore. The company describes itself as veteran-owned, holds ISO 9001 certification for its quality and engineering management system, and lists Bellinger Systems as a SYPAQ company.

A large share of SYPAQ's work is systems engineering, C5 (command, control, communications, computers and cyber), consulting and managed services for defence, government and enterprise customers. Its robotics business is the Corvo family of small uncrewed aircraft, marketed under the Corvo UAS brand and designed and built in Melbourne, with SYPAQ providing engineering, flight operations, training and support.

The Corvo Precision Payload Delivery System (PPDS) is a low-cost, expendable fixed-wing aircraft that ships flat-packed, is assembled by a soldier with minimal tools, is programmed with a target location and then launches, flies and lands without further operator input. Nicknamed the cardboard plane, it was developed with the Australian Army under an A$1.1 million Defence Innovation Hub contract and has a stated range of up to 120 km. Following a July 2022 Australian Government funding announcement, SYPAQ supplied PPDS aircraft to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and feedback from Ukrainian users led to an adaptation for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. A PPDS HL variant, described as re-purposable for a wide range of roles, is also offered.

Corvo X is a man-packable, military-grade small UAS with a thrust-vectored VTOL configuration, autonomy, payload and mesh networking. In July 2024 SYPAQ was selected under the Australian Army's DEF129 Uncrewed Aerial System program to design, manufacture and sustain a fleet of Corvo X over four-plus years with more than 90 percent Australian content and more than 18 new local jobs; a May 2026 company announcement reported delivery and entry into service. Corvo Strike is an interceptor drone for countering small UAS, supported by Australian Government funding through the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator's Mission Syracuse. The family also includes the Corvo Alto small UAS line and the Corvo Nano, a nano aircraft in fixed-wing and multirotor forms used for cooperative swarming. SYPAQ has also trained members of the Philippine Coast Guard Aviation Command on its fixed-wing UAS. Published technical figures for the Corvo aircraft are limited; endurance, weight and payload values are not stated on the product pages.
