Seyond is a global LiDAR technology company founded in 2016 and headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, USA, with major R&D and manufacturing operations in Suzhou and Shanghai, China. The company was originally established under the name Innovusion by founders Bao Junwei and Li Yimin, both Peking University alumni, with Bao holding a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. In December 2023, the company rebranded from Innovusion to Seyond to reflect its broadened market focus beyond automotive.
Seyond employs over 700 people globally and specializes in the design and production of image-grade LiDAR sensors and associated perception software. The company defining technology is its high-resolution point cloud output, which it terms image-grade LiDAR, capable of resolving fine object details at long range with sufficient density to resemble photographic imagery. This capability has made Seyond sensors attractive for automotive advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous driving, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), robotics, and industrial automation.
Seyond product portfolio includes the Falcon K, an ultra-long-range LiDAR capable of detecting objects at up to 500 meters (250 meters for objects with 10 percent reflectivity); the Robin E1X, a long-range front-view sensor with a 120 degree horizontal and 20 degree vertical field of view and a 200-meter detection range; the Robin W, a mid-range sensor offering image-grade resolution of 0.1 by 0.36 degrees and over 1.28 million points per second with a minimum range down to 0.1 meters; and the Hummingbird D1, the company first fully solid-state LiDAR featuring a 140 by 100 degree field of view with no mechanical moving parts, targeting mass-production automotive applications.
Seyond also develops the OmniVidi software platform, which provides car-side perception capabilities for L2 and above assisted and autonomous driving, including detection and semantic classification of dynamic and static objects. The company has secured a world-first OEM design win for the Hummingbird D1 and maintains a strategic supply partnership with Chinese EV maker NIO. In 2025, Seyond received regulatory approval for a Hong Kong stock exchange listing.
