"Innovating hospital logistics through AI-powered robotics"
AI-powered robotics startup whose Rovi autonomous robot attaches to hospital stretchers to automate in-facility patient transport.
Rovex Technologies Corporation is a US robotics startup focused on innovating hospital logistics through AI-powered robotics. Founded in 2024 in Gainesville, Florida by emergency medicine physician David Crabb, MD, the company is headquartered in Gainesville and is opening additional operations in the St. Petersburg / Tampa Bay area. Its first product, Rovi, is described as the world's first in-hospital transport robot, an autonomous mobile robot designed to attach to any brand of hospital stretcher, and eventually beds and wheelchairs, to move low-acuity patients through a facility while keeping them informed and connected to their care team. Rovi uses computer vision to operate autonomously through elevators and doors without major infrastructure modifications, and provides 360-degree obstacle detection with real-time adaptation to navigate around equipment, spills and visitors.
The robot moves at walking speed, greets patients, announces destinations and provides updates, and is positioned to increase throughput so more procedures are completed, beds turn over faster and hospital capacity increases. Before deployment, Rovi is trained in virtual simulation that maps facility corridors and models patient flow, and during operation it captures logistics and transport analytics data to reveal workflow bottlenecks. According to the company, staff training and setup take under one hour, its engineering team holds 42 patents and has developed two FDA-approved robotic devices, and 9 to 10 Rovi units can handle transport needs for a large hospital. Rovex is a member of the NVIDIA Inception program and has launched a pilot with BayCare Health System at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida.
