RoboTape is a robotic tape-dispensing system developed by Innovative Automation Inc., a Canadian automation manufacturer headquartered at 1215 Nicholson Road in Newmarket, Ontario. The product line sits alongside the company's RoboClip and Mecsmart Systems brands.
RoboTape automates the application of single- and double-sided adhesive tapes, including 3M tape products, for gasketing, sealing and bonding steps that manufacturers previously performed by hand or with mechanical fasteners. A patent-pending remote feeding module positions the tape spool outside the robot's work cell rather than mounting it on the robot arm, reducing the size and weight the robot must carry and cutting the frequency of spool changeovers. RoboTape for 3M is a pre-configured variant built specifically for 3M double-sided tape, and a larger-capacity RoboTape XL model is also offered. The system is designed to integrate with industrial robot arms from multiple manufacturers rather than a single robot brand.
Innovative Automation sells and supports RoboTape through a network of about five integration partners and material converters, and publishes white papers, case studies and application guidance to help manufacturers select tape materials and configure cells.
