Robot Makers GmbH is a German software service provider and OEM supplier founded in April 2011 by Dr. Carsten Hillenbrand and Dr. Bernd Helge Leroch, both alumni of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. The company emerged from H&S Robotics Solutions GbR, which had been offering robotics services since 2009. Its mission is to bring autonomous intelligence to proven mobile machines rather than building new platforms from scratch, enabling established agricultural machinery and green-space equipment manufacturers to offer autonomous capabilities without redesigning their hardware.
The company's core competencies lie in intelligent control systems, autonomous navigation for outdoor unstructured environments, environment perception, and sensor fusion. Its primary product lines are autonomy retrofit kits that integrate into existing implement carriers, mowers, and vineyard tractors.
Key products include MowPilot, an autonomy kit that enables automated mowing of open areas such as meadows and highway embankments using a Teach and Repeat paradigm; RowCropPilot, a lane-guidance system for autonomous operation in vineyards and orchards planted in rows; and VineyardPilotAssistant, developed jointly with Braun Maschinenbau GmbH, which automates implement positioning in steep-slope viticulture to improve area coverage and work quality. The RowCropPilot and VineyardPilotAssistant received the Innovation Award of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in 2020. A second Innovation Award followed in 2023 for the SelfDrive retrofit kit developed with Koeppl GmbH, enabling automated mowing on existing Crawler and Gekko implement carriers.
In 2022, Robot Makers partnered with Sensor-Technik-Wiedemann and HAWE Hydraulik to create ROVO AI, an application-neutral, emission-free, and fully autonomous robot platform targeting agricultural and industrial use cases. The company also entered the automated parking sector through a 2023 partnership with Parkstory GmbH.
Robot Makers serves agricultural machinery OEMs, green-space management equipment manufacturers, and specialty crop producers across Europe and beyond. Its systems have been commercialized through partners including Peruzzo (Italy), Braun Maschinenbau, and Nikken Corporation (Japan). The company is headquartered at Merkurstrasse 45, 67663 Kaiserslautern, Germany, and participates regularly in major agricultural trade fairs such as Agritechnica, EIMA, and GaLaBau.
