Reservoir Farms, operated by The Reservoir, is an agricultural-technology incubator and proving ground that hosts AI-enabled robotics and precision-agriculture startups directly on working commercial farms in California. Founded in 2024 by former Google executive Danny Bernstein, the organization opened its first 40-acre on-farm site in Salinas, California, with additional locations across the Salinas Valley, Wine Country, and Central Valley. The facility is purpose-built for deep-tech hardware: it provides fully equipped R&D workshops, secure storage for expensive field equipment, and customized pre-planted specialty-crop fields so startups can develop, test, and commercially validate ruggedized robotics, automation, and data tools in real growing conditions rather than in a lab. Reservoir offers two residency programs designed to move early-stage companies from prototype development to commercial validation within a real farm ecosystem, addressing the rural labor and productivity challenges facing specialty-crop agriculture.
The platform is supported by partners including Western Growers, which committed a three-year, USD 1.5 million partnership, and a venture arm, Reservoir VC, that invests at the pre-seed and seed stages in ruggedized robotics and the rugged-AI stack that enables them. In June 2026 Reservoir expanded its venture platform by acquiring Contain to further support rugged physical-AI agtech startups. Resident and partner companies include agricultural-robotics firms such as Bonsai Robotics. The Reservoir's mission combines accelerating agricultural productivity outcomes with driving economic impact in rural communities, positioning itself as a bridge between Silicon Valley deep tech and the practical needs of specialty-crop growers.
