Company Overview

poLight ASA is a Norwegian optics technology company headquartered in Tonsberg, Norway, founded in 2005, with employees across Finland, France, the UK, the US, China, Taiwan, Japan and the Philippines. The company develops and supplies TLens, a proprietary tunable optical lens built on piezo-MEMS actuation and a polymer-based deformable lens membrane that mimics the focusing action of the human eye. TLens delivers autofocus with extremely fast focus speed, a very small footprint, no magnetic interference, constant field of view and low power consumption, addressing limitations of conventional voice-coil-motor autofocus modules. The technology supports image sensor formats up to 1/1.5 inch and provides a focal range from infinity to roughly 20 cm, with smartphone configurations targeting closest focus below 10 cm. TLens has been deployed in consumer devices including the MEIZU 20 Infinity smartphone, where a TLens-based selfie camera provides near-instantaneous focus reported as up to ten times faster than competing technologies.

Beyond smartphones, poLight addresses wearables, barcode scanners, machine vision and medical equipment, and has developed off-the-shelf M12-format focusing lenses delivering TLens tunable optics for industrial machine vision OEMs, plus integration into Thorlabs optical cage system products and AR/MR applications. As a component supplier of perception and imaging optics, poLight enables fast, stable autofocus in cameras and vision systems used across robotics and automated inspection.
