Polestar is a Swedish electric performance car brand headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, founded in 2017 by Volvo Car AB and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. The company designs and sells premium battery-electric vehicles and is a significant integrator of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous-driving technology, which is the basis for its relevance to the robotics and autonomous-systems sector. The Polestar 4 ships with the full-surround, camera-based Mobileye SuperVision ADAS platform from launch, and is planned to become the first production car to feature Mobileye Chauffeur paired with a front-facing Luminar LiDAR.
The Chauffeur configuration is set to use three Mobileye EyeQ6 processors, a Luminar LiDAR and a Mobileye front-facing imaging radar, with the stated goal of enabling eyes-off, point-to-point autonomous driving on highways and eyes-on, hands-off driving in other environments as a future upgrade. The Polestar 3, the brand's electric SUV launched in late 2022, uses the NVIDIA DRIVE software-defined compute platform as its central AI processing system for driver assistance and safety functions. By combining camera, LiDAR, radar and high-performance automotive compute from partners including Mobileye, Luminar and NVIDIA, Polestar develops and integrates production-vehicle autonomy, positioning it as a manufacturer of autonomous-capable electric vehicles rather than a standalone sensor or chip supplier.
