Plus Automation Inc. (+Automation) is a Japanese company established in June 2019 to make warehouse and logistics automation more accessible and easier to adopt. The company is majority owned by trading conglomerate Mitsui & Co., together with GLP Japan, and operates on a Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) business model in which customers pay a monthly fee for a complete service rather than purchasing and integrating robots outright. Instead of pursuing traditional, build-to-order system integration, Plus Automation focuses on improving customer operations by carefully selecting and combining proven robotic solutions suited to each site, drawing on its own operational know-how. The company curates technologies from multiple robotics vendors and delivers them as managed services.
Its offerings include the t-Sort high-density sortation robot system from China's Zhejiang Libiao Robots, which has been reported to improve sorting efficiency by 30 percent or more over conventional methods, and the PA-AMR collaborative picking solution based on autonomous mobile robots from Japan-based Rapyuta Robotics. Plus Automation won its first RaaS contract in 2019 with Jun Co., a Japanese company with interests across fashion, food and fitness products. By bundling hardware, software, integration and ongoing operational support into a subscription model, Plus Automation lowers the barriers of upfront capital cost and technical complexity that typically slow warehouse automation, allowing logistics and distribution operators to scale robotic sorting and picking capacity in line with demand.
