UK laboratory automation integrator formed in 2012 by merger of Process Analysis & Automation (1992) and Peak Robotics Inc (1989); acquired by Grenova in 2025.
Peak Analysis & Automation (PAA) is a Farnborough, Hampshire-based laboratory automation integrator with roots stretching back to 1992. The company was formally constituted in 2012 through the merger of Process Analysis & Automation Ltd — a UK company founded in 1992 by five former members of the BP Research Centre at Sunbury-on-Thames — and Peak Robotics Inc, a US corporation founded in 1989. Together, the two organizations brought complementary expertise in laboratory software, robotics, and systems integration.
PAA specialises in designing and building modular, end-to-end automation systems for life science laboratories across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, diagnostics, genomics, and academic research sectors. Its technology combines robotics hardware, scheduling and control software, and deep application-specific engineering knowledge to deliver repeatable, high-throughput workflows.
Key products include the Overlord Control Software, which integrates instruments and robotics across complex multi-step workflows using event-driven and time-based scheduling; S-RUN Scheduling Software, which coordinates instruments and robotics for optimised, repeatable workflows with full operational visibility; and the Smart Cart, a fully mobile, modular automation platform that enables instrumentation to be repositioned without rebuilding the workcell. PAA also offers a range of modular Laboratory Workcells — from simple two-instrument integrations to bespoke, fully orchestrated end-to-end systems.
PAA's vendor-agnostic integration philosophy means it works with over 80 instrument partners and holds more than 400 instrument drivers, allowing clients to retain existing laboratory hardware while gaining automation benefits. The company's expertise spans cell biology, drug discovery, genomics, diagnostics, sample management, and automated chemistry.
In 2025, Grenova — a US-based leader in sustainable laboratory solutions — acquired certain assets of Peak Analysis & Automation, bringing PAA into the Grenova organisation as a sister company. This strategic move was designed to expand the combined portfolio of software, hardware, and integration services, with a shared focus on modular automation, scalability, and long-term laboratory performance. PAA continues to operate under its brand from its Farnborough headquarters and has completed over 1,000 global projects across more than 30 years of combined experience.
