NORD Drivesystems (Getriebebau NORD GmbH & Co. KG) is a German drive technology company headquartered in Bargteheide, near Hamburg. Founded on 1 April 1965 by G. A. Kuechenmeister and Guenter Schlicht, it has grown from a family business into a global supplier of mechanical and electronic drive solutions for more than 100 industries. The company develops, produces, and distributes geared motors, electric motors, industrial gear units, and frequency inverters, and assembles complete drive systems in which motor, gear unit, and inverter are matched as a single package.
In 1981 NORD introduced its UNICASE gear unit construction, a closed housing machined from a single cast-iron block that holds all gear elements, supporting long service life and low maintenance; the family covers helical, helical bevel, and helical worm gear units in foot, flange, and hollow-shaft configurations. Its NORDAC frequency inverter line, including NORDAC ON and NORDAC FLEX, provides networked, scalable control with onboard processors and interfaces under the company's NORD 4.0 connectivity concept for decentralized drive technology. NORD's IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motors maintain efficiency up to 95% across a wide torque range and span 0.35 kW to 11 kW with continuous torque from 1.6 Nm to 43.9 Nm.
The company operates a worldwide network of 48 subsidiaries in 36 countries, sales partners in over 50 countries, and more than 60 assembly and service centers for local support and short delivery times. Its Bargteheide hub spans 57,800 square meters with around 790 on-site staff covering production, assembly, and service.
