"Covering the world. Uncovering possibilities."
Trondheim group (est. 1995, OSL: NORBT) making multibeam sonars for ROV/AUV use and, since 2026, Water Linked DVLs and Underwater GPS for subsea robots.
NORBIT ASA is a Norwegian technology group founded in 1995 and headquartered in Trondheim, with about 700 employees and manufacturing in Europe and North America. It is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange under the ticker NORBT. The group has three segments: Oceans (subsea, security and the Aptomar oil-spill and environmental monitoring business), Connectivity (tolling, automotive and custom connectivity products) and Product Innovation & Realization, which provides R&D services and contract manufacturing.
Its robotics-related products sit in the Oceans segment. NORBIT Subsea develops multibeam sonar systems, including depth-rated systems designed for integration on ROVs and AUVs, and the WINGHEAD X Midwater, a motion-stabilised long-range system with optional Layered Media Detection. NORBIT Security supplies intruder detection sonars for underwater perimeter protection.
On 22 June 2026 NORBIT agreed to acquire 100% of Water Linked AS for NOK 330 million on a cash- and debt-free basis, financed by a new term loan, with closing then expected around 30 June 2026. Water Linked, founded in 2013 and based in Trondheim, develops underwater navigation and imaging equipment for maritime, defence and offshore energy customers, and was expected to generate about NOK 100 million in revenue in 2026. Its product line includes the DVL A50, which it describes as the smallest Doppler velocity log available, along with the DVL A100, A125 and A250 (a long-range bottom-lock model). It also sells the Underwater GPS G2 acoustic positioning system (including a kit for the BlueROV2), the Sonar 3D-15 real-time 3D multibeam imaging sonar and the M16 miniature acoustic modem.
Primary type & automation activities this supplier delivers:
Very compact Doppler velocity log for navigation of small ROVs and AUVs.
Acoustic underwater positioning system, offered as a standard kit and a BlueROV2 kit.
Real-time 3D multibeam imaging sonar for underwater vehicles.
