Motofil is a Portuguese robotics and automation company founded in 1981 and headquartered in Ílhavo, in the Zona Industrial das Ervosas industrial park. The company began by manufacturing electric motors, enameled copper wire and small welding machines, and from 1992 established an R&D department dedicated to robotic applications, evolving into one of the larger European manufacturers of robotized welding systems. Today Motofil designs and integrates robotized welding solutions across MIG/MAG, submerged arc welding (SAW), TIG and spot welding, including compact single-workstation cells for large metallic parts and flexible cells for low-volume, high-mix production.
Beyond welding, the company supplies industrial handling and automation systems, thermal cutting machines (fiber laser, plasma and oxyfuel), tooling, and self-aligning roller beds developed from more than 18 years of experience serving the wind-energy industry. Motofil builds robotic cells around industrial robot arms from suppliers such as FANUC and integrates them with its own positioners, handling equipment and process technology. The company's main customers are in metalworking, renewable energy, mobile and agricultural machinery manufacturing, aeronautics, metal processing and automotive sectors.
Motofil operates from a large industrial site and runs its own welding and robotics training center, with group activities historically spanning welding-wire production, contract manufacturing services and an aeronautics division for moulds and assembly lines. It has established subsidiaries and delegations in Spain, Brazil and Mexico and serves additional markets through a network of strategic partners. The group companies merged into a single entity, Motofil, S.A., in 2018.
