Company Overview

Marsi-Bionics S.L. is a Spanish medical robotics company founded in 2013 and headquartered at Calle Marie Curie 19, 1-6, Rivas-Vaciamadrid, 28521 Madrid, Spain. The company originated as a spin-off from the Center for Automation and Robotics (CAR), a joint research center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). It was founded by Dr. Elena García Armada, a roboticist with a PhD in Industrial Engineering, who was motivated by a 2009 encounter with a young quadriplegic girl to develop robotic exoskeletons for children.

Marsi-Bionics' flagship product is the ATLAS 2030, the world's first pediatric floor exoskeleton designed for full overground walking. ATLAS 2030 features eight active joints providing trunk-hip-knee-ankle-foot (THKAF) mobility in all directions and is designed for children aged 3–14 weighing up to 40 kg with severe neuromuscular conditions including spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), Duchenne muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and other neurological or neuromuscular disorders. The technology behind ATLAS 2030 is the proprietary ARES (Actuator with Reconficurable Elastic System) actuation platform, featuring joints with adjustable stiffness that mimic the natural compliance of human muscles, enabling personalised gait therapy adapted to each patient's condition.

Marsi-Bionics has published clinical evidence including a case series study on range of motion, strength, and spasticity improvements in children with cerebral palsy (published in Frontiers in Pediatrics, 2021). The company also markets the MB-Active Knee (MAK), a single-joint active knee orthosis for adult rehabilitation. Marsi-Bionics has raised approximately $4.91 million in four funding rounds from investors including Orilla Asset Management, ALBP, and Ion Ion.

The team has grown from 6 at founding to approximately 40 employees. The company has received multiple innovation awards in Spain and internationally and has collaborated with healthcare institutions across Spain and Europe.
