Locata Corporation is a Canberra, Australia-based technology company that invented LocataTech, a terrestrial radio-location system delivering centimeter-level positioning accuracy in environments where GPS is unavailable or unreliable. Founded in 1997, the system deploys LocataLite transceivers networked via patented TimeLoc self-synchronization technology to form a LocataNet — a ground-based analogue of a GPS satellite constellation. Applications include precision positioning for autonomous mining machines, industrial robotics, and vehicle collision avoidance testing.
Locata has partnered with Leica Geosystems for mining automation at Newmont's Boddington Gold Mine and with Perrone Robotics at the IIHS Vehicle Research Center.
