LISSMAC Maschinenbau GmbH is a German machinery manufacturer founded in 1979 in Aitrach by Siegfried Gebhart, who had begun designing a stone-cutting machine the previous year; the company relocated to its current headquarters at Lanzstrasse 4 in Bad Wurzach, Baden-Wurttemberg, in 1982. Its name is a Latin acronym combining lignum (wood), saxum (rock), serra (saw), and machina (machine).
The company organizes its business into four divisions. Construction Technology produces floor saws, masonry saws, joint cutters, and concrete drilling equipment. Metal Processing centers on the patented SBM series of steel-brushing, grinding, and deburring machines, including compact units such as the SMD 122 RE and SMD 123 RE, which process sheet-metal parts on both sides in one pass, removing oxide scale, deburring edges, and rounding corners. Plant Engineering supplies automated production systems, including deburring lines for high-volume work, while MT-Handling integrates material-transport equipment.
LISSMAC grew through acquisition, adding the Modern Technik handling business in 2000 and the Steelmaster metal division in 2012, and consolidated into its present structure in 2009. The company reports more than 400 employees across five sites in Germany, France, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates, and distributes through its US subsidiary, LISSMAC Corporation.
