"The open marketplace for robotics training data"
Oslo startup whose marketplace, in beta since Sept 2026, sells verified humanoid-robot training data, each dataset graded A+ to F by its KBQS system.
Kinetic Blocks AS is an Oslo, Norway company that runs an online marketplace where robotics training data is bought and sold. It targets developers training humanoid and other embodied-AI models, for whom access to demonstration data is a common bottleneck, and aims to replace months of bilateral data-licensing negotiation with a standard listing-and-purchase process. The marketplace opened in beta on 1 September 2026 after several months of development with a small group of data suppliers and early users. Access is by application: buyers must be actively training humanoid models and suppliers must own or control the data they license.
Datasets on the platform include egocentric first-person human video, robot teleoperation recordings, robot execution data and multimodal captures covering household, industrial, hospitality, construction and personal-care tasks. Sellers keep ownership and set price, licence and exclusivity (non-exclusive by default), and they can withdraw a listing while licences already granted stay in force. Kinetic Blocks earns a platform margin on each sale, and buyers receive a commercial licence with every purchase. The LeRobot format (v3.0) is recommended but not required, standard video containers are accepted, and uploads can be made through the browser or by API key.
Verification is the core of the service. Every claim on a listing card, covering task, environment, robot, modalities, frame rate, resolution and licence, is checked against the uploaded files and stamped Verified, Doesn't match or Can't confirm, with evidence attached. Footage then receives a KB Quality grade from A+ to F under the company's KBQS system, which weights technical quality at 30 percent, temporal integrity at 25 percent, content usefulness at 30 percent and completeness at 15 percent. Source files are read-only after upload, and any flag goes to the seller first, who can revise and resubmit, withdraw, or contest it with a human reviewer. Sample listings shown at launch included a 20-hour egocentric household manipulation set of 198 clips graded A- at USD 800 and a 10-hour cleaning point-of-view set at USD 300. A free open-data section and a custom dataset request service, scoped against the supplier network, sit alongside the paid catalogue.
The team is led by chief executive Lars-Fredrik Forberg, former chief technology officer of the Scandinavian construction group Mestergruppen. Leo Terry, based in Boston, leads data quality and built the verification and grading engine. Board chair Erik Ålgård is a robotics investor who has served on the board of 1X Technologies for ten years, and co-founder Christian Rokseth is an early 1X investor who founded the humanoid.guide publication. Marcus Hølland Eikeland built the first version of the product and remains an adviser. Kinetic Blocks is a member of the NVIDIA Inception programme. At launch it said the catalogue would stay small for a while, and that it planned to open a seed round in the fourth quarter of 2026 and build supply and demand in the US, Europe and Asia.
Primary type & automation activities this supplier delivers:
Two-sided marketplace where suppliers license verified robotics training datasets to humanoid model developers.
Verification and grading system that checks listing claims against files and grades footage from A+ to F.
Buyer-specified data collection scoped against the Kinetic Blocks supplier network and returned as a proposal.
Section of the marketplace offering robotics training datasets free of charge.
