Keybotic is a Barcelona-based robotics company founded in 2019 by Irene Gomez Alemany (CEO) and Hilario Tome (CTO), the latter previously a principal robotics engineer at PAL Robotics. The company designs and manufactures Keyper, an autonomous quadruped inspection robot purpose-built for hazardous industrial environments including chemical plants, oil and gas facilities, energy infrastructure, and mining operations. Keyper measures approximately 95 cm long and 60 cm tall — roughly Labrador-sized — and navigates gravel, uneven terrain, pipes, and stairs.
Its standard inspection head integrates a 30x optical zoom camera, a thermal camera, an acoustic sensor, a torch, and a stabilizing gimbal. Additional sensors include LiDAR and gas detectors for detecting gas and steam leaks, thermal hotspots, equipment failures, and unauthorized personnel in real time. Processing is handled by two Intel 12th-generation CPUs — one for deterministic locomotion and perception tasks, the other for task planning, route optimization, and user code execution.
Keybotic won the DARPA Subterranean Challenge in 2021, earning USD $1 million and international recognition. Commercial clients have included Carburos Metalicos, BASF, and Barcelona Fire Fighters. The company raised EUR 3 million in 2023 and was acquired by European defence AI company Helsing on 12 January 2026.
