Bolzano, Italy armored-vehicle maker founded 1937, now part of Leonardo Group since March 2026; builds the Lince, Centauro and Guarani plus UGVs.
IDV (Industria Difesa Veicoli, formerly Iveco Defence Vehicles) is an Italian manufacturer of military and armored vehicles headquartered in Bolzano, Italy. Its lineage traces to 1937, when Lancia Veicoli Industriali began producing military trucks at the Bolzano plant; the business later became part of Fiat and then Iveco, operating as Iveco Defence Vehicles from 1985 and adopting the IDV name in 2022. On March 18, 2026, IDV became part of the Leonardo Group, ending its prior ownership under Iveco.
IDV designs protected, armored and multirole vehicles, including the LMV2 vehicle known as the Lince, the MTV tactical vehicle, the SUPERAV 8x8 amphibious platform, and the Guarani 6x6 amphibious vehicle built for Brazil. With Leonardo, through the Iveco-Oto Melara Consortium, it also supplies the Centauro II wheeled combat vehicle and the Ariete C2 battle tank. After taking majority ownership of MIRA UGV from HORIBA MIRA in 2023, the company began developing uncrewed ground platforms under its IDV Robotics unit, including the Viking, a hybrid-powertrain platform operated remotely or autonomously for logistics, medical evacuation and surveillance missions.
IDV operates six plants in Italy, Brazil, Germany and Romania, backed by seven R&D centers and twelve commercial offices worldwide, supplying NATO armed forces, the US Marine Corps, the Brazilian Army and the Dutch Armed Forces.
