Iris Automation was founded in 2015 and is headquartered in San Francisco, California. The company develops onboard and ground-based perception systems for uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), focused on enabling safe Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) commercial drone operations. Its flagship product line, Casia, uses computer vision and machine learning to detect, classify, and avoid airborne traffic without GPS or transponder reliance.
The Casia 360 system provides a 360-degree radial field of view for omnidirectional collision avoidance. Iris Automation has completed 14 BVLOS test programs in partnership with regulators across the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, India, and South Africa, and has received operational approvals in those jurisdictions. In December 2020, the company closed a $13 million Series B financing round.
Customers include drone operators in infrastructure inspection, energy, and logistics sectors requiring regulatory approval for advanced commercial operations.
