Hamilton, Ontario medical robotics company; developer of IGAR, the first FDA-cleared robot designed to operate inside an MRI scanner.
Insight Medbotics is a Canadian medical robotics company headquartered in Hamilton, Ontario, founded in 2017 as a joint venture between the Centre for Surgical Invention and Innovation and MDA, building on research led by Dr. Mehran Anvari. The company develops robotic systems built from non-magnetic materials so they can function inside the bore of an MRI scanner during minimally invasive procedures.
The company's flagship system, IGAR, received FDA 510(k) clearance in 2023 for MRI-guided breast biopsy, which the company states makes it the only cleared robotic system designed for use with an MRI. IGAR provides real-time image-guided positioning during the biopsy procedure. Insight Medbotics is also developing Glenn, a second MRI-compatible robotic platform aimed at prostate biopsy and focal therapy, intended to give urologists MRI-guided access during interventions. As of late 2025, Glenn remained under development, with the company reporting positive early design and usability feedback from independent urologists; it is not FDA cleared for prostate indications and is not available for sale.
The company's public communications through 2026 continue to focus on expanding clinical interest in MRI-guided prostate procedures among US urologists ahead of a planned commercial launch for Glenn.
