"Expert Data For your AI"
San Jose training-data firm founded 2012, part of EXL since Aug 2026; LiDAR/camera fusion annotation, manipulation and AMR datasets via its Ango Hub platform.
iMerit is an AI training-data company that provides data annotation, data collection, model evaluation and fine-tuning services, together with its own labeling software platform, Ango Hub. Robotics and physical AI are among its focus markets. It was founded in 2012 by Radha Basu, who is CEO, together with Dipak Basu. Its headquarters are at 160 West Santa Clara Street, Suite 600, San Jose, California. It also has offices in New Orleans, Louisiana, and in Kolkata and Bengaluru, India, and says it has more than 10,000 active resources across more than 60 countries.
iMerit is now part of EXL (ExlService Holdings, Inc., NASDAQ: EXLS). EXL announced an agreement to acquire iMerit on 24 June 2026. The total consideration was USD 310 million: USD 170 million upfront plus USD 140 million in earnouts and incentives over two years. EXL completed the acquisition on 3 August 2026. Radha Basu continues to lead the business as Executive Vice President, Head of iMerit, within EXL. Before the acquisition, iMerit's investors included Khosla Impact, Omidyar Network, the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation and British International Investment. Total pre-acquisition funding was about USD 24.5 million.
For robotics customers, iMerit provides multi-sensor fusion annotation of LiDAR point clouds and camera images, 360-degree 3D point-cloud labeling, panoptic and semantic segmentation, polygon and bounding-box annotation, and object tracking across image and video sequences. Its physical-AI services also include training data for dexterous manipulation, perception datasets for autonomous mobile robots, video data collection, and crop-and-weed detection data for weeding and precision-spraying robots. The company lists household, medical, logistics, agriculture, hospitality, delivery, warehouse, industrial automation and aerial delivery robotics as application areas. The company cites more than 6,000 expert annotators across more than 10 global delivery centers. In a published case study with Carbon Robotics, a maker of precision weeding machines, iMerit annotated nearly one million images and reduced completion time by 61%.
Ango Hub is iMerit's proprietary data platform. It includes annotation tools for image, video, text, audio, 3D multi-sensor fusion and medical DICOM data, along with custom tools, plugins, APIs and analytics. EXL describes it as supporting chain-of-thought reasoning data, red teaming and multimodal evaluation for generative AI models. The iMerit Scholars network supplies domain experts, such as physicians, scientists, engineers and linguists, for model training and evaluation, and the Deep Reasoning Lab offering focuses on reasoning data for foundation models. Its customers include frontier AI labs and enterprises in high-tech, autonomous mobility, healthcare AI and robotics.
iMerit states compliance with SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA and TISAX. Customers named on its website include eBay, Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, GE Healthcare, Autodesk and TripAdvisor. The company exhibited at CVPR 2026 in Denver, where it demonstrated Ango Hub and won first place in the CVPR Auto-Annotation Challenge.
