IDEKO is a private, independent Basque research and technology centre founded in 1986, specializing in advanced manufacturing and machine-tool technologies. Established by leading machine-tool manufacturers to coordinate their technological development, IDEKO is the R&D centre of DANOBATGROUP, the first Spanish machine-tool builder group, and is integrated within MONDRAGON Corporation, one of Spain's largest industrial groups. It is a member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA).
With roughly 100 highly qualified researchers and engineers, IDEKO conducts applied research organized into several core groups: design and precision engineering, manufacturing processes, dynamics and control, and ICTs and automation. The centre develops technologies for high-performance machine tools, precision machining, additive and subtractive manufacturing processes, structural dynamics, vibration and chatter suppression, smart sensing, digital twins, artificial intelligence and industrial automation. IDEKO transfers these innovations to industrial partners to improve productivity, accuracy and reliability in advanced manufacturing. The centre participates extensively in European and national collaborative research projects and partners with industry and academia worldwide. In recent years IDEKO has expanded its capabilities through collaborations such as a joint R&D facility with Renishaw in the Basque Country to drive advanced manufacturing innovation.
Headquartered in Elgoibar in northern Spain, IDEKO serves the machine-tool and advanced-manufacturing sectors with research, technology development and engineering services that strengthen the competitiveness of European industrial production.
