HySpex is a line of hyperspectral imaging cameras designed and manufactured by Norsk Elektro Optikk AS (NEO), a privately owned electro-optics company founded in 1985 in Oslo, Norway by researchers from the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment. NEO began hyperspectral imaging work in 1995 with the HISS (Hyperspectral Imager for Small Satellites) project for the European Space Agency, and has since built HySpex into a line of airborne, UAV, ground-based, and laboratory imaging systems. NEO is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and describes itself as Norway's largest independent electro-optics research and development organization.
The HySpex product range spans several tiers and spectral bands. The Classics series includes the VNIR-1800, VNIR-3000 N, SWIR-384, SWIR-640, and VS-1200 models. The Mjolnir series is built for UAV and aerial use, with the V-1240 covering 400-1000 nm, the S-620 covering 970-2500 nm, and the VS-620 combining both ranges with co-registered pixels in one housing. The Baldur series targets industrial and rugged field deployment, with the V-1024 N, S-640i N, and S-384 N imagers. HySpex push-broom sensors are used as reference instruments for spectral measurement in remote sensing, mineralogy, agriculture, and environmental monitoring; NEO also supplies HySpex-based cameras for microsatellite platforms and processing software including the Prediktera Software Suite, HySpex Bifrost, ATCOR 4, and PARGE.
