Heudiasyc is a UTC/CNRS lab in Compiegne running an octorotor drone fleet, flight arenas and robotised ZOE cars for autonomy research.
Heudiasyc (Heuristique et Diagnostic des Systemes Complexes) is a joint research unit (UMR CNRS 7253) of the Universite de technologie de Compiegne (UTC) and the CNRS, attached to CNRS Sciences Informatiques. Founded in 1981, it works in computer science, automatic control, robotics and artificial intelligence, around mobility and transport, safety, the digital transition of industry and connected systems. The lab had 135 staff at the end of 2025 and is directed by Philippe Bonnifait. It has three teams: SyRI (Robotic Systems in Interaction), CID (Knowledge, Uncertainty, Data) and SCOP (Safety, Communication, Optimisation).
Its robotics platform is a fleet of multirotor UAVs, largely funded by the Robotex Equipex awarded in 2011. MODUL-AIR is a modular octorotor with 1.1 kg payload that can carry lidar, RTK GPS and HD cameras and is used for fault-tolerant control and vision tasks. X-AIR is an octorotor without a rigid structure between motors, designed for safe contact with objects or people, and Hydro-lift is a heavy-lift, long-endurance drone using hydraulic technology developed in an industrial chair with the Roberval laboratory. The platform also runs Parrot-based prototyping quadrotors, a 10 x 12 x 6 m indoor flight arena with 24-camera motion capture at 1 mm precision, an enclosed 18 x 36 x 7 m outdoor arena, an RTK GPS base and the open-source FL-AIR flight framework and CUSCUS UAV network simulator.
The intelligent vehicles platform has five instrumented vehicles, two of them autonomous. The APAChE fleet of two robotised Renault ZOE cars offers full longitudinal and lateral control up to 50 km/h, with a 40-layer lidar, 360-degree cameras, RTK GNSS and V2X modems. A further ZOE records perception and localisation datasets, the DYNA vehicle supports vehicle-dynamics research, and a vehicle-in-the-loop bench uses a robotised Renault Fluence. The lab also operates a CAVE immersive simulator and a driving simulator, and takes part in the TIRREX Equipex+.
Primary type & automation activities this supplier delivers:
Modular research octorotor carrying lidar, RTK GPS and HD cameras for fault-tolerant control studies.
Two robotised ZOE cars with full lateral and longitudinal control for autonomous driving research.
Open-source Linux/Xenomai UAV flight framework with ground station and 3D sensor simulator.
