Herdsman is a swine management software platform developed by S&S Programming, Inc., based in Lafayette, Indiana, a company founded in 1981 by two Purdue University students. Initial development of the Herdsman program began in 1980, making it one of the longest-running commercial swine management systems available. The platform enables pork producers to collect, track, and analyze herd data, generating standard reports and action lists to optimize farm operations.
Advanced editions support multigenerational animal lineage and inbreeding tracking, feed efficiency calculations, daily consumption monitoring, and inventory management. Herdsman is the only commercially available swine management system that allows producers to create and evaluate proprietary genetic lines within and across their herds, supporting data-driven breeding improvement programs. The software is used by customers in 22 countries.
