Company Overview

Haier is a Qingdao, China-based multinational home appliances and consumer electronics group that traces its origin to 1984, when Zhang Ruimin took over management of what was then Qingdao Refrigerator Co., a struggling collective-owned factory, and rebuilt it into one of the world's largest appliance makers. The parent group now operates through several publicly listed entities, most notably Haier Smart Home Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Stock Exchange: 600690, with a Frankfurt Stock Exchange D-share listing) and Haier Electronics Group Co., Ltd. (Hong Kong Stock Exchange: 1169), alongside other listed units including THUNDEROBOT, Haier Biomedical, INKON Life, Shanghai RAAS, STEP, Autohome, and Zhongmiao Holdings. Haier's core appliance brand portfolio spans Haier, Casarte, Leader, GE Appliances (acquired from General Electric in 2016), Fisher & Paykel, AQUA, Candy, and Evo, covering refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, dryers, microwave ovens, mobile phones, computers, and televisions.

According to the company's own reporting, Haier employed approximately 146,000 people worldwide as of 2025 and generated RMB 426.8 billion (about USD 59.8 billion) in revenue that year, a 6.3 percent increase year on year. Haier Smart Home is a Fortune Global 500 company, and Haier has been named the world's only IoT Ecosystem Brand in Kantar BrandZ's Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands ranking for eight consecutive years, reflecting a strategy of organizing its businesses around connected-appliance and smart-home ecosystems rather than single products.

On its official corporate site, Haier describes a Robotics Industry Ecosystem as one of six major industrial ecosystems it has built out alongside its core home-appliance and smart-home businesses, extending its manufacturing and automation expertise beyond household devices. Reflecting this push into robotics-adjacent hardware, Haier introduced a lightweight, AI-assisted exoskeleton product called the W3, launched in physical retail stores in Guangzhou in July 2026 at a price of approximately USD 2,200, marking a move by the group into wearable robotic assistance devices sold directly to consumers.

Haier's business model centers on decentralized micro-enterprise units operating under its Rendanheyi management framework, which the company credits for allowing rapid product iteration across its many appliance and electronics categories. The group's manufacturing base remains anchored in Qingdao, Shandong Province, with global production, R&D, and sales operations supporting its brand portfolio across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and other regions.
