Furhat Robotics, founded in 2014 and headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, develops social robot hardware and software for human-robot interaction (HRI) research and commercial applications. The company's flagship product, the Furhat robot, features a back-projected translucent mask mounted on a motorized head, capable of displaying customizable virtual faces with synchronized lip movements, eye contact, and head gestures. The robot speaks over 120 languages and dialects, uses a 120-degree field-of-view camera with deep learning-based face detection, and supports multi-party interaction through real-time face tracking.
FurhatOS, the underlying software platform, enables developers to build conversational applications and social skill deployments. In January 2024, the company launched FurhatAI, integrating large language models with the robot's vision and speech systems. Furhat has been deployed in healthcare screening, autism therapy, museum guidance, recruitment, and customer service.
The company was spun out of research conducted at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
