Taiwanese electronics contract manufacturer (TWSE: 2317) with EV, health and robotics units; built Monarch MK-V e-tractors at Lordstown, Ohio from 2023.
Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., which trades as Foxconn and as Hon Hai Technology Group, is a Taiwanese electronics manufacturing services (EMS) company headquartered at No. 2, Ziyou Street, Tucheng District, New Taipei City. It was founded on February 20, 1974 by Terry Gou. Young Liu has been chairman and president since July 1, 2019. The company is listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange under code 2317, and global depositary receipts trade on the London Stock Exchange under HHPD. Hon Hai reported 2025 revenue of about US$259 billion (NT$8.1 trillion), and the company says it ranked 28th on the 2026 Fortune Global 500.
Foxconn's core business is contract design and manufacturing of electronics for brand owners. The company groups its products into four segments: Smart Consumer Electronics, Cloud and Networking Products, Computing Products, and Components and Others. It has R&D and manufacturing centers in mainland China, India, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Czech Republic and the United States, and reports owning more than 57,000 patents. Major listed or controlled affiliates include FIH Mobile, Foxconn Industrial Internet, Foxconn Interconnect Technology (which owns Belkin) and Sharp Corporation, in which Hon Hai holds a majority stake. Its corporate strategy, called '3+3', targets three growth industries (electric vehicles, digital health and robotics) and three core technologies (artificial intelligence, semiconductors and next-generation communications).
In electric vehicles, Foxconn set up Foxtron in 2020 as a joint venture with Taiwan's Yulon Group. In May 2022 it bought the former General Motors plant in Lordstown, Ohio, from Lordstown Motors for about US$230 million. The Lordstown campus has about 6.2 million square feet of production space.
Foxconn's link to agricultural robotics is its former contract with Monarch Tractor. On August 9, 2022 the two companies announced a contract manufacturing agreement under which Foxconn would build Monarch's MK-V all-electric, driver-optional tractor and its battery packs at Lordstown. The first five production MK-V tractors came off the Lordstown line in April 2023, and TechCrunch later reported that Foxconn built 'a few hundred' Monarch tractors there. That arrangement has since ended. In August 2025 Foxconn agreed to sell the Lordstown plant, with its equipment and machinery, for US$375 million to a buyer later identified as SoftBank. Foxconn said it would keep occupying and operating the site, which is being converted to make AI data-center equipment for the SoftBank-backed Stargate project. Monarch Tractor laid off staff in 2024 and 2025, moved toward a software-and-licensing model, entered an assignment for the benefit of creditors, and had its assets acquired by Caterpillar, announced on April 15, 2026. Foxconn is therefore no longer producing MK-V tractors.
In robotics and digital health, Foxconn developed Nurabot, an autonomous nursing-support robot built on NVIDIA's AI and simulation platforms. It is being field-tested at Taichung Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan and rolled out to Cardinal Tien Hospital and Baishatun Tung-Mazu Hospital. NVIDIA reports that the robot delivers medication and specimens, navigates hospital corridors autonomously, communicates in natural language, and saved nurses two to three hours of transport work per day in trials. Foxconn has also said it has been automating its own factories with robots since about 2016.
