Boston software firm founded 2018 whose platform links robots, CNCs and 1,000+ equipment models for closed-loop autonomous factory control.
Flexxbotics is a Boston-based industrial software company whose platform connects robots, CNC machines and other factory equipment to production data and operating rules, so that workcells can run under closed-loop, autonomous process control. It was founded in 2018 by Tyler Bouchard, chief executive, and Tyler Modelski, chief technology officer, and has been a resident company at MassRobotics. Press reports describe it as a university spin-out: TechCrunch cites Northeastern University's IDEA programme, while The Robot Report cites Worcester Polytechnic Institute, whose commercialization fund invested in the company.
The business began with tools for robot-driven machine tending. Early products included Flexx Connect, a cloud-based no-code manufacturing management platform, and Flexx Reference, a six-degree offset tool for Universal Robots arms; Flexxbotics was a UR+ certified partner in North America and said in 2022 that its robotic productivity tools, first launched in 2020, were in use at close to 100 companies. Its core technology, FlexxCORE, links robots with existing automation equipment, IT systems and staff.
The current offering is marketed as an autonomous manufacturing platform in three layers. Device Drivers connect factory assets and translate protocols, with compatibility claimed for more than 1,000 makes and models of equipment. Edge Software captures and contextualises data inside lines and workcells for real-time response. The Control Plane detects events, holds operating rules and governs approved actions, and can be deployed on customer servers, the Flexxbotics cloud or GovCloud. The platform runs alongside ERP, MES, SCADA, PLC and historian systems rather than replacing them, and the company states that deployments take days, with factory-wide rollout in under a week. Solutions are packaged as Industrial Data Connectivity, Automated Production Tracking, Process Characterization and Autonomous Process Control.
Target sectors are aerospace, defence and space; automotive and heavy-duty equipment; industrial products and fabrication; semiconductor and electronics manufacturing; batteries and clean tech; and medical devices, pharmaceuticals and biotech. Customer logos on the company site include Boeing, Toyota, Trumpf, Agilent, Collins Aerospace, General Atomics, Saint-Gobain, Timken, Hubbell, New Balance and Sub-Zero.
Flexxbotics raised a USD 2.9 million Series A led by eCoast Angels in May 2022. In January 2024 it announced a further, undisclosed round, again led by eCoast Angels, which included Aras founder Peter Schroer, a board member since 2022, and seventeen other former Aras investors and executives. The company presented its platform at IMTS 2026 in Chicago.
