"Wildfire Resilience as a Service"
Israeli startup founded 2024 building AI-guided stationary launchers that fire retardant capsules, each installation guarding up to 70 acres from wildfire.
FireDome is an Israeli company developing an autonomous, stationary system that detects and suppresses wildfires around individual properties. It was founded in June 2024 by Gadi Benjamini, the chief executive, and Dr. Adi Naor Pomerantz, the chief technology officer; Dafna Akiva is chief operating officer. The concept borrows from missile-defence interception, and the advisory board includes Pini Yungman, one of the engineers behind Iron Dome and David's Sling, and Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell, a former U.S. Fire Administrator. Research and development is based in Israel.
The core hardware is the FireDome Launcher, an electromechanical unit with no explosives that rotates and adjusts its aim to throw capsules of water or eco-friendly fire retardant. Each capsule holds about 40 litres and opens in mid-air. Thermal and visual sensors scan the surroundings, and an AI decision engine weighs wind, terrain, vegetation and fire progress to rank threats and calculate trajectories. The system works on three levels: laying a retardant firebreak around the property perimeter before a fire arrives, coating assets inside that perimeter, and extinguishing ember-driven spot fires in real time. Units carry their own water supply, keep working off-grid when power and communications fail, and several can coordinate to cover a larger area. According to the company and press coverage, one installation protects up to about 70 acres (300 dunams) and launchers can reach up to 1,000 feet. Remote monitoring, alerts and a mobile app connect the system to owners and fire services. The technology is covered by a PCT patent application.
FireDome sells the system as a service, under the name Wildfire Resilience as a Service, with installation, maintenance and year-round readiness included. First target customers in the United States, chiefly California, are vineyards and wineries, neighbourhood associations and resorts; utilities, solar farms, oil and gas sites and military bases are named as later markets. A full-scale prototype was demonstrated at Mikveh Israel, and in 2026 the company began U.S. operations with a demonstration site at Yuba County Airport, California, with customer installations planned from 2027. U.S. firefighting agencies have asked for a mobile version for controlled burns.
Funding included a USD 3 million pre-seed round led by Third Sphere and Gravity, with Caesar Fund, Atooro Fund and Vertex Ventures participating, and a USD 1.5 million Israel Innovation Authority grant in 2024. The Innovation Authority later reported total funding of USD 7.6 million.
