Excelitas Technologies Corp. is a photonics company headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, formed in 2010 when Veritas Capital spun off PerkinElmer's optoelectronics business. Its technology traces to EG&G, founded in 1947 by three MIT professors, which took the PerkinElmer name in 1999 before the 2010 spin-off; AEA Investors has owned Excelitas since 2017.
The company's portfolio includes photonic detectors such as silicon avalanche photodiodes; thermal infrared sensors including pyroelectric and thermopile detectors and arrays; high-speed, scientific and intensified cameras sold under the PCO brand; imaging lenses, laser optics and custom optomechanical assemblies through its LINOS line; diode laser modules and pulsed laser diodes; LED components and deuterium lamps; UV curing systems under the Phoseon and OmniCure brands; and X-Cite fluorescence illuminators. These support machine vision and inspection, LiDAR and range-finding, semiconductor processing and additive manufacturing, plus life-sciences, medical, and aerospace and defense uses.
Excelitas has grown through acquisitions including Carsan Engineering and Kaiser Systems in 2012, Lumen Dynamics and Qioptiq in 2013, and later REO, Axsun Technologies, PCO AG, Phoseon Technology, Noblelight and Luxium, and designs custom OEM optical assemblies from a global network of manufacturing sites.
