EOX Tractors B.V. is a Dutch startup based in Arnhem that designs and builds large emission-free tractors for agriculture, construction and industry. Its machines use an electric drivetrain on a modular chassis and are offered either as fully battery-electric units or with a hydrogen fuel cell as the energy source. The company states that it works with commercial partners and academic institutions and expects all tractors to be electric or otherwise emission-free within 20 years.
EOX ran its first prototype in 2015 and a second in 2017, both of which were tested extensively before the company settled on the electric drive concept used in the EOX175. The EOX175 was developed together with farmers for Controlled Traffic Farming: its track width is adjustable, with an effective field width of 3.20 m and a road width of 2.25 m, so it fits cropping systems between 2.25 m and 3.20 m. It is available as an autonomous, fully battery-powered version and as a hydrogen tractor.
The current product line comprises FRONTIER, Pioneer and Ampbox 210. FRONTIER is presented as a fully autonomous work robot rather than a conventional tractor: it navigates with GPS, sensors and software, detects and avoids obstacles, can work around the clock without a driver, couples conventional implements, and is monitored through EOX's own TMS fleet software, which allows several robots to operate simultaneously under central control. Pioneer is positioned as the hydrogen-linked machine for longer working hours.
