Company Overview

Ensenso is the 3D machine-vision camera brand of IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH, a German manufacturer headquartered in Obersulm. IDS was founded in 1997 and has grown into an independent, ISO-certified family business with more than 250 employees, operating both development and production at its Obersulm site. The Ensenso line consists of stereo-vision 3D cameras built on the projected-texture stereo principle, sold in the N, X, XR, and B series, alongside the Nion time-of-flight camera. IDS launched the first Ensenso model, the N10, and has since expanded the family with new designs and electronics; the Ensenso XR was the first camera in the series able to compute 3D point clouds on the device itself rather than relying on a host PC.

The cameras emphasize precision, robustness, cost-effectiveness, speed, and straightforward integration, and are aimed at applications such as robot vision and guidance, bin picking, object recognition, volume measurement, and quality inspection in automation environments. The newer Ensenso B model combines a short working distance with a large field of view and high depth of field. As a stereo 3D camera supplier, Ensenso provides the depth-perception hardware that lets industrial and collaborative robots locate and manipulate objects in three dimensions, with software and SDK support provided through IDS.
