Efficient Computer is a Pittsburgh-based fabless semiconductor company founded in 2022 as a spin-out from Carnegie Mellon University. Co-founded by CMU professors Brandon Lucia (CEO) and Nathan Beckmann, the company has developed the Electron E1 processor — built on a novel spatial dataflow 'Efficient Fabric' architecture that eliminates the energy overheads of traditional von Neumann systems, delivering up to 100x greater energy efficiency than conventional low-power processors. The Electron E1 targets edge AI inference applications in robotics, IoT, wearables, space systems, and defense.
The chip reached customer delivery in mid-2025, with large-scale volume ramp in 2026 and an evaluation kit launched in December 2025. The company raised a $16M seed round in March 2024 led by Eclipse VC, followed by a $60M Series A in early 2026.
