Company Overview

Dynamic Creatures is a Boston company that builds mobile, interactive character robots for theme parks, hotels, resorts and other guest-facing venues. It spun out of Boston Dynamics and emerged from stealth on 8 September 2026 as Boston Dynamics' official hospitality and entertainment partner. Its name refers both to Boston Dynamics and to Jim Henson's Creature Shop, signalling the mix of robotics engineering and character design the company is aiming for.

The company offers two kinds of product. The first are character experiences built on existing robot platforms, chiefly those of Boston Dynamics; one example covered at launch was Danielle, a poodle-styled character built on the Spot quadruped. Because these use proven hardware, the company says platform-based characters can be deployed within months, and it offers leasing so venues do not have to commit large capital up front. The second are fully original, custom-built robots designed for a particular brand or attraction.

Both run on SnowJay, the company's integrated robotics and AI platform, which it describes as the operating system at the heart of its robots. SnowJay handles real-time behaviour control, switching between skills, health monitoring and safe operating states. It supports learned skills such as locomotion, expressive gestures and fall recovery, and lets teams build training pipelines from motion capture or from animation created in tools such as Maya. A human-robot interaction layer combines third-party embodied-reasoning models with control of facial expression, emotion and gesture, and the platform also covers multi-robot choreography and calibration work to narrow the gap between simulation and real behaviour. In August 2026 the team published ZEST, a motion-imitation framework tested on Atlas, Spot and the Unitree G1, in Science Robotics.

Chief executive and co-founder Marc Theermann was previously chief strategy officer at Boston Dynamics and held senior roles at Google; chief technology officer and co-founder Farbod Farshidian was a research leader at the Robotics and AI Institute. Julie Barker, formerly of Boston Consulting Group, joined as chief business officer in September 2026. Investors are Eniac Ventures, Kindred Ventures, Heliad, Sunshine Lake and BlueGrass Ventures, with Marc Raibert and Lukas Ziegler among the angel investors; no amounts have been disclosed. At launch the company said it was already working with a large theme park and a retailer, neither named. Target venues include theme parks, hotels and resorts, casinos, museums, cruise ships and live venues.
