Founded in 1991 by a team of six in Vermont, the company designs and produces band pass, notch, edge, and laser filters, dichroic beamsplitters, neutral density filters, polarizers, and reflective metal mirrors covering a spectral range from 200 to 3000 nm. Chroma offers off-the-shelf catalog products, custom and OEM filter design, and high-volume production, supported by in-house thin-film coating, metrology, and quality assurance capabilities. Its Rapid Prototyping service can deliver custom products in as little as two weeks. For industrial automation and robotics, Chroma's filters serve machine vision systems used in inspection, measurement, sorting, robotic guidance, and embedded vision in harsh environments, delivering the wavelength control, contrast, and durability that vision-guided equipment requires.
Beyond industrial markets, the company supplies filters for life-science and diagnostic instruments (flow cytometers, PCR, DNA sequencers, plate readers), fluorescence microscopy, Raman and analytical spectroscopy, astronomy and astrophotography, and aerospace and defense remote sensing.
Chroma provides engineering and application-science support from concept through production, along with tools such as its interactive Spectra Viewer for plotting and comparing filter transmission data.
