"Autonomous Intelligence for Critical Operations"
Perth-based firm, founded 2017, whose PilotOS software runs autonomous inspection, logistics and casualty-evacuation missions on legged and wheeled robots.
Chironix is an Australian engineering company headquartered in Malaga, Western Australia, with an office in Washington DC, that develops autonomy, sensing and decision-support software for robots used in defence, mining, oil and gas, utilities and medical settings. The company was founded in 2017 by a team of military veterans and robotics engineers; its first work was technology to extract wounded personnel from combat environments. The CEO is Daniel Milford and the COO is Chris Smith.
Its core product is PilotOS, a robot operating and fleet-management platform compatible with ROS-based robots. PilotOS supports mission planning and execution, teach-and-repeat routes, follow-the-leader mode driven by hand signals, GPS tracking, live video and 2D lidar mapping, and fleet supervision of multiple robots across multiple sites from one dashboard. For inspection it fuses thermal, acoustic and visual sensor data to detect equipment anomalies and produce reports.
Chironix offers four service lines: autonomous inspection, remote logistics autonomy for payload transport in contested or hard-to-reach environments, autonomous surveillance, and supply of mission-ready robotic platforms. It also provides applied robotics software development, robotics platform integration and consulting. Its store lists quadruped, wheeled, tracked, humanoid, drone and medical platforms from manufacturers including ANYbotics, Boston Dynamics, Unitree, Clearpath, AgileX, Husarion, Canadensys, ScoutDI and Athena GTX. In May 2025 it added an ANYbotics ANYmal D quadruped to its fleet for inspection services and became a key distributor for Husarion's Panther UGV and ROSbot XL in Asia-Pacific; in January 2026 it partnered with ScoutDI on drone-based inspection.
In defence, Chironix worked with the Australian Department of Defence on robotic casualty evacuation from 2020. In September 2026 it won a USD 9.53 million contract from the US Office of Naval Research to continue Project Guardian Daemon, which lets an autonomous vehicle monitor shock, vibration and environmental conditions affecting a casualty and adapt its driving; this was its fourth consecutive ONR contract after two phases of Project Simpson. In April 2026 it extended its autonomous logistics solution from land to sea-based platforms.
Primary type & automation activities this supplier delivers:
ROS-compatible robot operating and fleet-management platform for autonomous inspection, logistics and surveillance.
Casualty-aware autonomy that adapts an autonomous vehicle's driving to protect injured passengers (US ONR funded).
