Cepton Technologies, Inc. is a lidar company founded in 2016 and headquartered at 399 W. Trimble Road in San Jose, California. Dr. Jun Pei co-founded the company and served as its chief executive. Koito Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a Japanese automotive-lighting supplier, invested USD 100 million in Cepton in January 2023 and completed an all-cash acquisition of the company on January 7, 2025, at USD 3.17 per share; Cepton was delisted from Nasdaq and now operates as a privately held, indirect subsidiary of Koito from its original San Jose headquarters.
Cepton's lidar sensors are built on its patented Micro Motion Technology architecture. Its hardware line includes the Vista Ultra long-range lidar and the Nova Ultra near-range lidar, paired with the Helius perception software for object detection, tracking, and classification, and the StudioViz visualization tool. The sensors and software target automotive ADAS and autonomous-vehicle programs as well as smart-city, smart-space, and industrial-perception applications, including infrastructure monitoring and highway-tolling deployments.
