Centrale Nantes is a French engineering school founded in 1919 that coordinates the EMARO and JEMARO robotics masters and co-runs the LS2N lab.
Centrale Nantes (Ecole Centrale de Nantes) is a French graduate engineering school founded in 1919 and located at 1 rue de la Noe in Nantes. It is a member of the Groupe des Ecoles Centrale and a founding member of Nantes Universite. The school reports more than 20,000 graduates, says one third of its students are international, and supports about 120 student clubs and associations.
Robotics is one of four research fields in which the school cites an international reputation, alongside naval hydrodynamics, civil engineering and composite and advanced materials. Robotics research is carried out mainly in the LS2N laboratory, which the school co-supervises with Nantes Universite, IMT Atlantique, CNRS and Inria; listed specialisations include advanced robot modelling, advanced visual geometry, sensor-based control of complex robots, humanoid robots and intelligent vehicles. Other affiliated laboratories include LHEEA (hydrodynamics and ocean engineering) and GeM (civil and mechanical engineering).
In education, Centrale Nantes is the coordinating institution of the EMARO European Master on Advanced Robotics consortium, with partners including the University of Genoa and Warsaw University of Technology, and coordinates the JEMARO Erasmus Mundus joint master degree in advanced robotics. Nantes Universite, including Centrale Nantes, ranked 48th worldwide in ocean engineering in the 2026 Shanghai thematic ranking.
