French RPAS maker founded 1998, producing long-endurance fixed-wing UAVs for maritime surveillance, earth observation and defense; part of Mistral Group.
Boreal SAS, operating under Groupe Mistral, is a French designer and manufacturer of long-range fixed-wing remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS), based in Castanet-Tolosan near Toulouse. Founded in 1998, Boreal became part of the Mistral Group in 2015, alongside M3 Systems France and M3 Systems Belgium. The flagship BOREAL UAV has a wingspan of 4.20 metres, a take-off weight below 25 kg, and an endurance exceeding 10 hours, covering up to 1,000 km in a single flight while carrying payloads above 5 kg.
Missions include maritime surveillance, earth observation, environmental monitoring, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). In June 2025 Boreal announced a partnership with Thales to develop the MTO-LP1 long-range loitering munition for France's defense sector. The company is a founding member of the French Drone Industry Association (ADIF) and holds the Origine France Garantie certification.
The DGAC has authorized Boreal for high-elongation beyond-visual-line-of-sight missions, a first for a 25 kg-class fixed-wing drone in France.
