"End the cycle of injury and turnover"
Montreal passive exoskeleton maker; battery-free spring design reduces lumbar load by up to 60 lb per bend; targets construction and industrial workers.
Biolift (Technologies Biolift Inc.) is a Montreal, Quebec-based startup founded in March 2019 by CEO Laurent Blanchet. The company designs and manufactures passive back-support exoskeletons engineered for physically demanding trades — primarily construction, hardscaping, paving, masonry, and heavy industrial work. Its core product is a wearable mechanical device that attaches to the torso, hips, and shoulders, using a spring-loaded mechanism with no batteries, motors, or electronics.
The exoskeleton captures the body's mechanical energy during forward bending and redistributes it when the worker stands back up, reducing lower-back strain by an adjustable 18 to 60 lb (8–27 kg) per bend. The device weighs 10 lbs (4.5 kg), accommodates body heights from 5 ft 2 in to 6 ft 8 in (157–203 cm), and is constructed from aerospace-grade aluminum with breathable fabric padding and airflow channels. It is designed to leave the front of the body unobstructed for full freedom of movement.
The concept originated from a real-world co-development partnership with Eurovia Québec (a VINCI Group subsidiary), whose paving crews needed a solution for repetitive heavy-lifting tasks. Biolift has conducted biomechanical analyses to validate effectiveness for each client's specific workflows. The product retails at approximately USD $4,000 with volume discounts available, and is sold directly via biolift.co and through third-party retailers including Belgard, Boar Hog Tools, and Akribis Leather.
Biolift is a graduate of the Centech incubator at École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), ranked among the top 10 university incubators globally by UBI Global. The company appeared at World of Concrete trade shows and received editorial coverage in Fine Homebuilding (March 2026).
