Biobot Surgical Pte Ltd is a Singapore-headquartered medical robotics company whose core technology traces to prostate biopsy research begun in 2001 at Nanyang Technological University under the late Prof Ng Wan Sing, with the venture incorporated in 2007 to commercialize the work; Yap Chew Loong has served as chief executive since 2011.
The company's product, the iSR'obot Mona Lisa, is a robotic system for transperineal prostate biopsy that fuses pre-acquired MRI images with live ultrasound to guide needle placement through two small perineal skin punctures rather than the transrectal route, with needle-positioning accuracy to within 1.0 millimeter. A second-generation Mona Lisa 2.0 adds soft-tissue ablation for treatment alongside diagnosis, and an ACCuESS variant is in development to extend the platform to additional sites of care. The system holds regulatory clearances including FDA 510(k) in the United States, CE marking in Europe, TGA in Australia, HSA in Singapore and NMPA in China.
More than 50 Mona Lisa units are installed across hospitals in the US, China, Australia, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, with over 25,000 procedures completed as of early 2024. The company raised a Series C funding round in April 2026, bringing total funding to more than $25 million.
