Axelera AI is a fabless semiconductor company founded in 2021 and headquartered at High Tech Campus, Eindhoven, Netherlands, spun out of imec. The company designs AI Processing Units for inference at the edge, built around a digital in-memory-computing architecture that runs computation inside SRAM rather than moving data between separate memory and processing blocks.
Its Metis AIPU delivers up to 214 TOPS of INT8 inference and ships in M.2 module, PCIe card, and multi-processor accelerator form factors for multi-camera computer vision in robotics, drones, autonomous vehicles, medical devices, and industrial systems. The newer Europa AIPU targets edge-server deployments with up to 629 TOPS of INT8 performance and shipments expected in the first half of 2026, while the in-development Titania processor is designed around a RISC-V architecture for data-center-class inference.
Axelera has raised more than $200 million in combined equity and public grants, including a 2021 seed round, a 2022 Series A led by Innovation Industries with an accompanying Dutch innovation credit, a 2024 Series B of about $68 million, and a 2025 grant of EUR 61.6 million from the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking.
