"Self-driving freight is here."
NASDAQ-listed self-driving company whose Aurora Driver runs commercial driverless freight trucks in Texas, day and night.
Aurora Innovation, Inc. (NASDAQ: AUR) is a US self-driving technology company developing and deploying the Aurora Driver, an autonomous driving system designed to operate multiple vehicle types and focused on long-haul freight trucking. The Aurora Driver integrates road-tested hardware with software backed by Verifiable AI, including the company's proprietary FirstLight lidar, which can see over 450 meters ahead and detect pedestrians up to 11 seconds sooner than human drivers at highway speeds at night. The system is engineered to integrate directly into existing freight operations and to operate trucks nearly round-the-clock.
In May 2025, Aurora began commercial driverless trucking in Texas, and by August 2025 was running driverless operations both day and night. The company partners with major truck OEMs including Volvo and PACCAR (Peterbilt, Kenworth) and strategic partners such as Continental and NVIDIA to scale production of autonomy-enabled redundant trucks; the Aurora Driver is integrated into the Volvo VNL Autonomous. Freight customers and partners include Werner Enterprises, Hirschbach, Schneider, FedEx, Uber Freight, and Ryder.
Aurora was founded in 2017 by Chris Urmson (former CTO of Google's self-driving program), Sterling Anderson (former head of Tesla Autopilot), and Drew Bagnell (former head of Uber's autonomy and perception team). The company is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with additional locations in the San Francisco Bay Area, Bozeman, Dallas, Detroit, Louisville (CO), and Seattle. Aurora positions safety at the core of its mission to deliver self-driving benefits safely, quickly, and broadly.
