Astrolab, formally Venturi Astrolab Inc., is a private American aerospace company founded in January 2020 by Jaret B. Matthews, a former NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory robotics engineer who also spent seven years at SpaceX as manager of Dragon spacecraft mechanisms. Headquartered in Hawthorne, California, Astrolab develops commercial planetary surface mobility vehicles for the Moon and Mars.
Its flagship product is the Flexible Logistics and Exploration (FLEX) rover, a multi-purpose platform designed for cargo transport, crew mobility, and surface infrastructure deployment. In 2023, Astrolab secured a contract for the first commercial FLEX rover mission, targeting Moon delivery aboard a SpaceX Starship as early as 2026. In April 2024, NASA awarded Astrolab a Lunar Terrain Vehicle Services contract, and in May 2026, NASA selected Astrolab as one of two providers for crewed lunar rovers under the Artemis program, with a task order valued at approximately $219 million.
The company's team brings experience from JPL Mars rover programs and SpaceX human spaceflight.
