Tanner, Alabama state-funded AIDT training campus, first phase opened 2010 for about 71 million dollars; teaches PLC, mechatronics, VR and robotic welding.
Alabama Robotics Technology Park (Alabama RTP), located at 6505 U.S. Highway 31 in Tanner, Alabama, is a state-funded workforce training campus operated under the Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT) program. Governor Bob Riley announced the project for the Decatur and north Alabama area in June 2008, citing the region's existing robotics manufacturing base. Construction cost approximately 71 million dollars, with the first phase opening in 2010 after ground was broken in 2009, and Phases 2 and 3 completed by 2016.
The campus comprises four facilities: a Robotics and Automation Training Center, an Advanced Research and Development Center for robotics and automation organizations, an Automation and Advanced Manufacturing Training Center, and an EV Technology Center for electric-vehicle manufacturing training. Course topics cover PLC programming, mechatronics, virtual reality applications, and robotic welding, delivered at no cost to Alabama employers or their employees.
Alabama RTP also operates a Mobile Robotics Training Lab that brings hands-on robotics instruction to K-12 students and an AIDT Military Transition Program for veterans entering manufacturing careers. The facility maintains ties with the Alabama Community College System, the University of Alabama, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
