Founded in November 1946 by William Ahaus and his son Irvin as Ahaus Tool Company, operating out of a two-car garage, the firm is now a multi-generational, family-led business with more than 100 employees and an average tenure exceeding 11 years. Across roughly 80 years, Ahaus has grown from an 18,000-square-foot facility (1979) to its present 74,000-square-foot plant in Richmond's Eastern Industrial Park. The company offers a broad range of custom products and services categorized as automation equipment, workholding solutions and fixtures, machining services and fixtures, heat exchanger equipment, and power generation equipment. Its industrial automation expertise spans assembly equipment, part joining and crimping equipment, bearing insertion assembly, automated part handling, robotic systems integration, process controls and custom metal removal, working with customers from conceptual design through engineering, service and support. Ahaus is a FANUC-certified integrator and serves industries including aerospace, agriculture, automotive, construction, consumer products, energy, heavy truck, HVAC, medical technologies and power generation.
Historically, the company developed special equipment and the process to attach plastic tanks to aluminum radiator assemblies for Ford Motor Company, expanding into heat exchanger equipment worldwide, and has manufactured components for nuclear fusion research. Ahaus introduced NC and CNC milling technology in the 1970s and 1980s and established a dedicated engineering department in 1983. It runs a nationally accredited apprenticeship program for toolmakers and CNC machinists, in partnership with Purdue University College of Technology and Ivy Tech Community College, that has operated for more than 40 years.
