Aeva builds 4D LiDAR sensors using unique FMCW technology that detects velocity and range simultaneously on a silicon-photonics chip.
Aeva Inc. is a Mountain View, California sensing and perception company founded in 2017 by former Apple engineers Soroush Salehian and Mina Rezk. Aeva develops 4D LiDAR built on Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) technology, which measures both range and instant per-point velocity (Doppler) while remaining immune to interference from sunlight and other sensors. Its core technology includes the CoreVision silicon-photonics LiDAR-on-chip module and the Aeva X1 LiDAR system-on-chip, described as the first automotive-grade FMCW LiDAR SoC, designed to ISO 26262 (functional safety, ASIL-B) and ISO 21434 (cybersecurity) standards. Production sensors include Aeva Atlas, a long-range automotive-grade 4D LiDAR with range up to 250 m (10% reflectivity), a 120 deg x 30 deg field of view, and a -40 to 85 C operating range; Atlas Ultra, a slim high-resolution sensor for SAE L3/L4 programs; Omni, a wide-view short-range sensor; and Eve 1, a precision laser speed sensor for factory automation. Aeva is publicly traded (NYSE: AEVA) after a 2021 SPAC listing. Named customers and partners include Daimler Truck (a multiyear contract reported at up to USD 1 billion), NVIDIA (selected for the DRIVE Hyperion AV platform), May Mobility, Nikon, Torc Robotics, SICK, Bendix, LG Innotek, and ZF.
Applications span passenger automotive, commercial trucking, mobility, industrial automation, smart infrastructure, rail, and speed enforcement. Aeva also provides 4D Perception software and the AevaScenes dataset for developers.
