Boston industrial software firm formed in 2026 by TPG from GE Vernova's Proficy and PTC's Kepware and ThingWorx; connectivity, SCADA, MES and IIoT.
Velotic is a Boston-based industrial software company launched on 16 March 2026, when the private-equity firm TPG closed two carve-out acquisitions: Proficy, the manufacturing software business of GE Vernova, and PTC's industrial connectivity and IoT businesses, Kepware and ThingWorx. The three keep their own product names inside one portfolio. Brian Shepherd, previously at Rockwell Automation, Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence and PTC, is chief executive; former PTC chief executive James Heppelmann is executive chairman. At launch the company reported more than USD 300 million in revenue, and it now cites more than 8,000 customers, 1,200 employees in 27 countries and 150 partners. Headquarters are at 268 Summer Street in Boston's Fort Point district, with about 250 staff in Hyderabad, India.
The portfolio follows the path from shop-floor devices to decisions. Kepware Server is the connectivity layer: around 150 device drivers translate proprietary PLC, controller and machine protocols into OPC UA and MQTT and feed MES, SCADA, historians and cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure; Kepware Edge runs the same function in containers, and Kepware+ Manager administers fleets of servers. Proficy covers operations: HMI/SCADA for operators, an industrial data historian, and Smart Factory MES for production, quality and traceability, offered on-premises or as cloud MES. ThingWorx is the application platform, modelling assets, processes and their relationships for asset monitoring, connected work cells and digital performance management. ThingWorx 10.2, announced in September 2026, adds an AI assistant, AI and agent services, and Model Context Protocol servers that can expose legacy systems to AI agents.
Customer results the company publishes include Brembo North America, Bharat Forge, Teel Plastics, Logstor and Drillmec, across discrete manufacturing, food and beverage, oil and gas, utilities and infrastructure.
For a robotics directory Velotic is a software layer rather than a robot supplier: Kepware is a common way to pull data from robot controllers, PLCs and CNCs into plant systems, and Proficy and ThingWorx sit above the automation cell.
